Some builder-specific ERP packages have hooks to Project- often nothing more than a text output that you can suck into Project to update tasks, but it's better than nothing. Project can be wired into an 'All MSOffice' environment where it works with Outlook/Exchange to deal with transmittals, with SharePoint to handle online document management, and so forth. We used it because the client owned it already, their staff was familiar with it, and it as 'ok' for what they needed to do. I have set up Project quite a few times at various residential shops and even done some basic integrations with other software, and I never felt it was a great fit. very well at all, compared to applications that are both construction-specific and more collaborative. notices of schedule updates and so forth.
